One of the most insidious symptoms of aging in the soft tissues of the face and neck is sagging, or gravitational ptosis. Manifestations of ptosis are associated not only with age-related changes in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, but also with stretching and weakening of the fixation points of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS).

SMAS is an anatomical fibromuscular structure consisting of two layers (fibrous and deep muscular) that performs the framework and support functions of the face. Therefore, effective soft tissue lifting requires treatment of both the deep layers and the SMAS.

Currently, the only non-invasive method of targeting the SMAS is HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) lifting technology.

Principle of Action

During treatment, focused high-intensity ultrasound waves with frequencies of 4 and 7 MHz create zones of thermal coagulation at depths of 4.5, 3.0, and 1.5 mm in the dermis and SMAS. High-intensity ultrasound causes tissue vibrations, leading to localized heating, followed by tissue contraction and stimulation of new collagen synthesis.

Thanks to the precise targeting of ultrasound vibrations, energy is delivered accurately without damaging surrounding tissues. The treatment line length can vary from 5 to 25 mm, and the distance between coagulation points is 1, 1.5, or 2 mm depending on the intensity of the ultrasound energy used.

Multi-level treatment ensures a three-dimensional natural volumetric lifting of the soft tissues of the face and neck, visible immediately after the procedure and progressively improving over 2–3 months.
