Laser radiation is selective, meaning it is absorbed by a specific target. In laser treatment of spider veins, the target is oxyhemoglobin in the blood vessels. In laser hair removal, the target is the dark pigment in the hair. Therefore, the laser affects only the vessels or hair without damaging the skin.
