Wrinkles around the mouth, known as “barcode wrinkles,” are fine lines extending vertically from the lip line.
Their appearance is related to the anatomical structure of the orbicularis oris muscle, which allows us to express emotions and move the mouth in different directions millions of times a day. With age, the skin loses its ability to recover quickly and begins to age. Not only expression lines appear, but also deep longitudinal wrinkles.
They can be corrected using hyaluronic acid gel.
Indications
barcode wrinkles above the lip visible at rest and/or during movement.
Contraindications
pregnancy and breastfeeding;
blood clotting disorders;
oncological diseases;
local or systemic infection at the time of the procedure.
How the Procedure Is Performed
A numbing cream is applied for 20–30 minutes before the procedure.
The product itself also contains an anesthetic, making the procedure comfortable and painless.
A gel is injected at the base of the wrinkle, filling it, and the skin above the wrinkle smooths out. As a result, the wrinkle depth is reduced or it may be fully smoothed out.
Slight redness may remain after the procedure, which resolves within 1 hour.
Full correction of these wrinkles usually requires 2–3 procedures.
